League City residents joined Mayor Pat
Hallisey and members of American Legion Post 554 on Monday, May 28 to honor those
from our community who have died in active
military service. The annual Memorial Day Ceremony, which is normally held at
Fairview Cemetery, was moved to American Legion Post 554 because of construction
and traffic congestion near the cemetery.
In addition to a roll
call of area service members who have died while in military service, the ceremony
featured a moment of silence, comments from Mayor Hallisey and a wreath ceremony.
There are 106 veterans buried in
Fairview Cemetery. Of those 20 are from the American Civil War and 30 served
during WWI.
