As part of League City’s contract with AmeriWaste, the City’s new trash and recycling collection provider, there are several changes residents need to be aware to ensure their recycling is collected.
Instead of a bin, residents who are interested in participating in the City’s recycling program have received a 48-gallon, closed top, wheeled cart. The demand for the new recycling carts is more than what the City anticipated and there is a currently a waiting list of residents who would like to receive one. The carts have been ordered and should be delivered in the next few weeks. Until then, residents can place their recyclables at the curb on their designated day in a clear or clear blue plastic recycling bag that can be purchased at a local hardware of discount store.
The new recycling carts are NOT for regular trash. Trash placed in the recycling carts will NOT be collected.
Recyclable items should be placed directly into the cart. DO NOT place recyclable items in a trash bag and then place inside the recycling cart. The bag will NOT be picked up. In order to prevent contamination, AmeriWaste workers must be able to see recyclable items before placing them in the truck. If regular garbage enters a recycling truck, the recycle stream will be contaminated and the truck must turn around and dispose of everything before it can begin collection again.
