More than 35,000 children in Galveston County rely on free and reduced meals during the school year. When summer arrives, many families struggle to replace these meals, leaving some children without proper nutrition. To support these families, the League City Police Department is hosting a food and fund drive to benefit the Children’s Nutritional Outreach programs of the Galveston County Food Bank (GCFB). The food and fund drive will promote the GCFB “School’s Out, Hunger’s Not” campaign and kicks off the summer Kidz Pacz weekly meal distribution program. The Kidz Pacz distribution is achieved through partnerships with Communities in Schools-Bay Area and the GCFB.
Kid-friendly donations, as well as monetary donations, may be dropped off at the League City Police Department located at 555 West Walker Street from May 14 through June 4. Examples of kid-friendly food donation items include: -Pop-top cans -Fruit cups and pouches -Milk and juice boxes -Peanut butter -Jelly -Granola bars
In addition, new toothbrushes and toothpaste are requested. Monetary donations in the form of cash or check will be accepted in person.
As a host of the Kidz Pacz program, League City Police Department has committed to distributing meals to League City children enrolled in the Kidz Pacz program every Wednesday for the duration of summer to supplement their nutrition needs. The Kidz Pacz program provides qualified children with a free pack of kid-friendly foods. For every $35 donated to the campaign, 105 meals for children in need will be supplemented.
