City Council, the Mayor, City Manager, and Directors from the city’s various departments met on Saturday, April 7 for a strategic planning retreat. The goal of the retreat was to bring council and city administrators together to collaborate on the development of a strategic plan for the future of League City.
“Strategic planning is one of, if not the most important policy statements the Council makes as it provides the formal direction for staff on the things Council wants to see or change,” said City Manager John Baumgartner.“It can provide the foundation for many of the budget and policy decisions going forward over the next few years. “
The six-hour retreat included work on developing a vision statement for the City of League City as well as a mission statement on the role and purpose of city government. The collaboration indirectly included the input of city employees, 60 percent of whom completed a survey on what they believe should be included in the City’s mission and values. Customer service, respect, excellence, and value-driven were just a few of the adjectives city employees used to describe what they value.
“I am really excited how engaged and involved everyone was in the process,” said Mayor Pat Hallisey. “I think this is really going pay off for us in the future.”
Council and staff will be meeting again to finalize and officially approve the City’s vision statement, mission, and organizational values, as well as identify critical success factors needed. This guiding framework will allow the City to align projects, programs, and priority initiatives for the coming years.
“I am excited to help implement what we put together and work with citizens to make sure all their needs are being met,” said Councilmember Hank Dugie.
“I think today really moved us forward by leaps and bounds and I am excited about what is ahead.” added Councilmember Todd Kinsey.
