The City of League City’s Fire Marshal’s Office reminds all League City residents that the selling, buying, use, or possession of fireworks within city limits and the City’s extraterritorial jurisdiction is illegal.
Sparklers, noisemakers, and poppers (i.e., items containing a string to make noise or pea-sized devices that can be thrown on the ground to make it pop) available in local stores are allowed.
“We ask our community to keep safety in mind throughout the New Year’s holiday,” said League City’s Fire Marshal, Tommy Cones. “It’s easy to get caught up in celebrating the holiday, especially, if you are using sparklers. Sparklers may seem harmless, but are more dangerous than most people assume.”
When ignited, sparklers can reach temperatures upward of 1,200 degrees and retain heat even after sparks have stopped flying.
The Fire Marshal’s Office will patrol areas throughout the City over the holiday and issue citations for any violations of the City’s Firework Ordinance. Individuals issued a citation face fines of more than $2,000.
Any illegal use of fireworks should be reported to the League City Police Department’s non-emergency line at (281) 332-2566.
