How Your Government Works
Form of Government
In a Council-Manager system of government like League City has, the City Council appoints a City Manager to carry out the day-to-day administrative functions of the government. The Council’s job is to set policy, formulate the annual budget, and vote to approve or disapprove a variety of contracts and projects. Council members are “at large,” meaning each member represents the entire city, not a specific precinct.
What is the City of League City Government Responsible For?
City staff work seven days a week to ensure residents maintain superior services and a high quality of life. Some of these services include:
- Providing clean water (Learn more about League City’s plan to secure clean water)

Property taxes in League City are shared between the City government, the Clear Creek Independent School District, and Galveston County.
