Those who know Director of Budget & Project Management Angie Steelman, know that she is a huge baseball fan. What many may not know about her, is that before finding her dream job, Angie had many titles under her belt, including esthetician.

What do you do?

As Director of Budget and Project Management, I oversee the annual budget process and project delivery.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really enjoy being of assistance to others whether it’s in the adoption of the budget or completing a challenging project.  The feeling of accomplishment while striving to make things easier on others is my favorite.

How long have you been working for the city and how did you get here?

I’m currently completing my eleventh year with the City.  I started as a Budget Analyst at the Police department in 2008, was asked to become a budget analyst in the budget department at City Hall in 2009, then in 2010 transferred to work for the ACM of Public Works as the CIP Projects Administrator, then in 2015 became the Budget & Financial Planning Manager and in late 2017 (two years ago) became the Director of Budget & Project Management.

Where are you from originally?

I grew up in the country on a farm about 30 minutes from Tyler, TX.

What is your background?

I started working part-time after high school while I was in college and ended up taking the scenic route to get a bachelor’s in accounting.  During that time, I held many different jobs, often several at a time but my main focus was always as a bookkeeper/office manager.

What are some interesting jobs that you’ve had in the past?

Between finding my true passion and making ends meet, I learned to make an awesome pizza, register someone for a hospital day procedure, discuss your hospital bill and health insurance payments, book a memorable vacation, host corporate events, and even sell you a new home.  Next to my current job, my favorite job was as an esthetician.  I worked at a day spa and provided relaxing facials and body treatments to clients.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Baseball!  I love watching my sons play and of course, I’m a huge Astros fan!

And I LOVE to read.

Fun fact about yourself?

Most people find it hard to believe I grew up on a farm.  And I helped my family build our log home.
